TEST PREP
Test Prep Retake Policy

Free repeat policy for the CBEST, CSET, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, RICA, and SAT test prep classes. Save your proof of initial registration and payment and call (619) 594-5152 to inquire about pre-registering for free for the class you wish to repeat. Re-registration is required before the class begins in order to make sure that there is still space in the class that you wish to repeat.

Summer 2008 Courses

Practical Academic Study Skills (PASS) for College
Proper study habits formed early contribute to academic success. The Practical Academic Study Skills (PASS) program will provide students with the study skills they need to succeed in and out of the classroom. Sections are offered for freshmen entering college.

The curriculum for PASS is developed and taught by faculty from SDSU. Enrollment is limited.

Skills taught include:
  • Note-taking and outlining,
  • Test-taking strategies,
  • Problem-solving,
  • Memorization techniques,
  • Listening skills,
  • Reading strategies,
  • Time management, and
  • Overview of SDSU Library and Internet access (college sections only).
This course will also help you review for the EPT and ELM exams.

Engineer-In-Training Examination Review
This lecture series will assist aspiring engineers in preparing for the national Fundamentals in Engineering Examination (FE/EIT) given by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers on October 25, 2008.

Please note the filing deadline for the October 25, 2008 test is August 22, 2008. Apply to take the exam online at www.dca.ca.gov/pels.

This expanded review series consists of 16 lectures reviewing the eight major subject areas covered by the examination. The lecturers are full-time professors of engineering at SDSU or professionals from the community; each will speak on his field of expertise and be available for consultation with students.

CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test) Prep Sessions
Let our outstanding teachers give you the edge to pass this very important exam! A special emphasis will be placed on a review of mathematics and applying math skills to CBEST question types. The essay section will also be carefully reviewed, followed by a short review of the reading comprehension section, including skills necessary to help potential teachers understand, interpret, and analyze passages. GRE (Graduate Record Examination) General Test Prep Sessions
Learn how to maximize your test-taking potential for the GRE. This workshop emphasizes analyzing and reviewing each of the sections: Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning (antonyms, analogies, sentence completion, and reading comprehension), and the Analytical Writing Assessment. TOEIC - Test of English for International Communication, Speaking & Writing Test
The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) is an international test for measuring English language proficiency. It is designed specifically to test abilities in English as used in real life and business situations.

The American Language Institute offers the TOEIC Speaking and Writing test modules.

The following items are prohibited:
Cell phones or pagers, personal digital assistant, iPod, MP3 player or any other digital or electronic equipment, portable listening or recording device (unless you are taking a Language Test with Listening), scratch paper, highlighter or colored pencils, camera or other photographic equipment, or separate timer of any kind or watch with audible alarm.

SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) Prep Sessions
Be Prepared for SAT! These workshops are designed to prepare students for the SAT by reviewing all the question types, including the new writing sections (essay and multiple choice). Two of the four meetings will focus on math (with the enhanced math question types also covered). One meeting will be used to analyze critical reading and sentence completion, and one meeting will focus on the writing sections (essay and multiple choice). The classes are taught by credentialed teachers who specialize in mathematics or English. The book included in the course fee is CliffsTestPrep The NEW SAT Preparation Guide by Jerry Bobrow, Ph.D.

Grammar for Journalists
This noncredit course is for journalism and communication students preparing for the Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuation Test (GSP). It is designed to help you learn the language skills required in the School of Communication’s writing courses. A passing score on the GSP test is required for admission to impacted journalism and communication majors.

CSET Multiple Subjects Exam (California Subjects Exam for Teachers) Prep Sessions
